While perusing the internet I was wondering how well we were doing in the search engines, what key words we were missing and ran across a company that first ask me what my goal was. For those of you that are not clear, there are over 18 million people that participated in martial arts within the last year of those 18 million I would say 90% participated in a discipline that wears safety equipment and sparred in a supervised environment if you will because kicking someone or at someone could turn into some serious business.
Think about the many parents that put their children in martial arts for discipline, structure and to chill their behavior so to speak. So they learn the fundamentals maybe they earn a few belts, get their coordination down and are better people for it. If you’re like I was you played a sport within your community or school, or college but after all of the trophies from tournaments or events. What then, baseball has the scouts; football and basketball have talent agencies. Ok I’ll take that back you can get groomed by your sensei or instructor to take over the school, or maybe he or she franchises his/her school and sets it up or makes arrangements using his/her name for students that present good teaching schools through the years offers an entrepreneurial program to expand his brand but even those odds are far and few.
I’d like to offer another venue choice without the MMA grappling, head banging and elbowing. Remember when it was only girls that kicked, or if you kicked someone you were called a girl? Well it’s a whole new day, kicking is ok, and the flashier the kick the more impressive you are. This venue although still a long way to go will hopefully one day be large enough to where team eliminations will be held in 52 cities across the nation, one in each city meaning each state would have the best of the best martial artists within their state to come out during a three day period or maybe even a weekend and fight for 13 competitive positions with two management in their respective cities. The winners of these divisions would form the team that’ll represent that state but I’m told I have to start small so that’s why I’m having this event in Columbia, SC.
I’m sure that poses a whole host of problems for a lot of other people, or competitors that would like to participate. I’m sure there will be a lot of potential participants that won’t even know its happening. It’s a major challenge to get this message throughout the United States without major bucks to get the word out. If I was someone like Chuck Norris, or Bruce Lee or even Steven Segal I wouldn’t even have this as a problem but my only contribution to martial arts is I owned a school once in McAllen, Texas, help Richard Jackson train for his first full contact match by allowing his to use my head and body as a battering ramp, and compete in the National Black belt League for sevens after I retired from the Army looking for something to do with my free time that would allow me to stay in shape.
So for everyone that believes in the possibilities of taking the majority of the martial arts participants and considering a platform that will allow them to get fit, maintain health well into their later years while providing exciting local family entertainment jump on board and sign up for our 2012 NMAL team Eliminations we’d love to have you and we need your support because with martial artists, judges and referees this will be a non-event.
Make us proud.
